My favorite song would have to be Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked. Every time I hear it I think about all the times in my life people have told me no or tried to hold me down and for a moment I can imagine myself getting even. I can feel as though I've conquered the world in a small way. For a minute, I've won. I feel powerful and indomitable (even more so when I'm singing it.) The girl in the song has come so close to having it all but found out that it "had much too high a cost". So instead of giving in to her fate, she defy's gravity. Literally. Rising high off the stage she ends an act with a song so perfect it defines the entire story.
