If I were given a contract to make a new film I'd be ecstatic. I'd probably want to start out with the genre I know best: Drama. I'd want to make a movie about some sort of human struggle but perhaps with elements of surrealism. Almost as if the audience is never quite sure what's the truth. I'd make my characters the central focus. Who they are, how they think, and the complex emotions that make them up. Since my movie is character driven I would hold an open casting call. Anyone from brad pit to a nobody high school student could audition. I'm looking for substance over style. People who are able to access raw emotion. Big names or no, I want the best in my movie. I guess that's how my movie would be different. It wouldn't be about making money or attracting viewers. It would be all about the art. About characters living a daily struggle. It would be about finding redemption, about guilt, and about love. It wouldn't be driven by effects or budget, but by the humanity in every single person cast.
Going to the movies is an experience like none other. Sure, you can always watch a movie at home, but the reason we go to the theatre is for the full experience. When you go to the theatre you get to sit in the darkness anticipating a film that is so new almost none of your friends have seen it yet. After all the previews and the endless waiting, a story comes to life before your eyes. You get to laugh and cry and scream as you see characters go through things that make you run the gamut of emotions. Sitting in that theatre you get to become a part of the story. It's almost like you are there. The screen is larger than any you have at home, the darkness is complete enough to release your own emotions without fear of judgement, and the movie takes twists and turns that you never imagined possible. Going to the theatre entertains you and impresses you all at once. Seeing a movie allows you to go on a journey and to leave reality behind for just a short while. And if we can leave reality, our own lives don't seem quite as dim when we come back to them.
