Hunger Games Analysis
Establishing shots moving to close ups- Show the setting and then move to character who is completely influenced by the setting in which she lives. Everyone appears small in the looming presence of societies will.
Sound- Almost complete silence. Tension builds massively up until Katniss shrieks. Bass line builds pressure.
Color- Colors are completely faded out, all whites and greys except for Effie. Effie seems out of place and overly extravagant next to the poverty. The people live in a world devoid of color.
Cuts- Beginning moves slower with more fluid transitions, but when Katniss steps up to volunteer the shots move faster alternating between faces. It enhances the finality of the moment and the fear of the parting.
Close ups- Reveal intense emotion and align the viewer with the character.
High Angle- Katniss appears small as she ascends the steps, she is completely dominated by the situation.
Low Angle- Katniss gains power as she stands firm and her people raise their hands in respect. She is someone to be reckoned with.

POV/shot reverse shot/eyeline match- Link Katniss and Peeta, show the importance of the bow. See as Katniss sees.
Sound- Ringing during the violence, almost like it is being blocked out but it is still piercing and driving. Mirrors the bomb noise in Children of Men.
Shaking Camera- Camera is disorienting, it moves constantly and never seems to catch a face except at the beginning. It serves to confuse and disorient, place you in the scene. Like children’s men camera that follows as an observer.
Camera Position- Dehumanizes the killers because they are not featured in close ups.
Jump Cuts- Speeds up the internal structural time, moves the action sequences along. Another feature of disorientation.
